SCOTLAND. William I 'the Lion'. 1165-1214. AR Penny (18mm, 1.32 g, 4h). Short Cross and Stars coinage, phase B. Edinburgh or Perth mint; Hue and Walter, moneyers. Struck circa 1205-1214. + hVЄ WALRO, crowned head left; scepter to left / + hVE WALRO, voided short cross; stars in quarters (3 stars of 6 points, 1 star of 5 points). Burns 22 (fig. 58; same obv. die); SCBI 35 (Ashmolean & Hunterian), 74 (same obv. die); SCBC 5029. Toned, find patina, slightly wavy flan with minor porosity. Near VF. Very rare with moneyer’s name on both sides.
